Text preview for Dong Yi Episode 55

It is not my desire for her to have die in my hands  Sukjong decrees that he will revoke Jang Hee Bin’s Inner Court title & status, then pass judgment to sentence to death by “Sayak” Jang Hee Bin finally asked Choi Dong Yi to look after Crown Prince Yun after she has gone. Jang Hee Bin then ends her life….suffering a traumatic blow from his mother’s untimely death, Crown Prince Yin turn recluse & giving a very concern Prince Yeoning, a cold shoulder response The Royal Court unanimously conform the petition to propose for a new Queen Consort, moreover Sukjong in rendering regards & respect towards Choi Dong Yi’s wishes that she has no desire to ascend as Queen Consort, goes to select a new Queen Consort

Jang Hee Bin in Chwi Seon Dang dressing in her clean white garb awaiting her arrival of her “Sayak” sentence in expressive of melancholy thoughtfulness.
Choi Dong Yi doing her own pensive thought & comtemplation
Anyone who have seen “The King & I” that starred Go Hye Sun as the the deposed Queen Yun, the wife of King Seongjong that was given a death sentence to drinks a bowl of poison. Historically considered one of the most tragic Queens of the Joseon Dynasty, Queen Yun was accused of scratching the king’s face and poisoning one of the king’s concubines out of jealousy.
It was a classic dramatic portrayal of the “Sayak” scene. The part of Queen Yun Sayak scene was played to excellence by Go Hye Sun, who realistically portrayed the painful last moment of the Queen’s life. She threw up globs of blood, fake one of course, after drinking a bowlful of poison handed ironically by a eunuch who loved her for all of his life.
Will we seen that depiction in Jang Hee Bin?

The Queen in Yi San, is Queen Jeongsun who is from the Andong Kim clan, Yeongjo lost his lovely & devoted Queen Jeongseong of Dalsung Seo Clan (1692-1757) whom he married in 1704. then after he marries Queen Jeongsun when Yeongjo was 66 years, he married his 2nd Queen, Queen Jeongsun who was only 15 years old. Queen Inwon married a “Uncle” Sukjong but Queen Jeongsun married “Grandfather” Yeongjo. Therefore I don’t think it was any marriage but just a political partners
Gyeongjong in his short reign has 2 Queens. The 1st Queen is Queen Danui of Shim Clan (1686-1718). She died before Gyeongjong became King, but Gyeongjong posthemously bestowed her Queen when he ascended the throne, then came Gyeongjong 2nd Queen; Queen Seonui of Eo Clan (1705-1730)
It seems that Queen Seonui gave Yeongjo’s Queen Jeongseong a hard time when she was Princess, Crown Princess later Queen then Yeongjo has a favourite Consort Jeong Bin of Yi clan (1694-1719) who gave Yeongjo his 1st heir Crown Prince Hyojang (1719-1725).
Crown Prince Hyojang was conceive when Yeongjo failed filial piety test by not observing sexual abstinence during his mother’s mourning period. Sukjong frown & disapprove. Queen Seonui obviously disgruntle that Yeongjo secure an heir. Jeong Bin died at birth while giving birth to Crown Prince Hyojang then Crown Prince Hyojang was said to be a victim of Queen Seonui’s doing
Crown Prince Sado was born in 1735

I don’t think Choi Dong Yi have any intention of becoming Queen Consort. It will be a political uphill battle due to her Cheonmin background where in Joseon Dynasty class & creed is mandatory & she doesn’t want Sukjong to be vexed with the tumult
Queen Consorts are there for political icon, as the stabliser of the political environment, as Choi Dong Yi doesn’t have representation of those political faction, therefore she doesn’t have the correct credentials. I am sure that Choi Dong Yi just want to live her life in palace with some peace & quiet. Sukjong admits with regret that Queen Inhyeon was just a political ally for his reign & never render his heart to her
It was then up to Yeongjo who took it as his filial duty to have his Mother revered in recognition as the Mother of a Monarch. Yeongjo fought a uphill battlle with his Royal Court 15 years of his reign to do so.
